Eric Bana is an Australian actor and producer known for his work across stand-up comedy, Hollywood films, and independent cinema. Bana began his career as a stand-up comedian while working as a barman before making his television debut on the sketch-comedy series "Full Frontal." He later hosted "The Eric Bana Show Live," earning the Logie Award for Most Popular Comedian for his work on the program.
Bana transitioned from comedy to dramatic acting with his breakout role as Mark Chopper Read in "Chopper," a performance that received critical acclaim and won him the AFI Best Actor award. He also received Best Actor at the Stockholm Film Festival for this role. His preparation for the part included significant physical transformation and time spent with Read in prison.
Bana's international profile rose with his role in Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down," followed by his portrayal of Bruce Banner in Ang Lee's "Hulk." He played Prince Hector in "Troy," an adaptation of Homer's Iliad, and starred in Steven Spielberg's thriller "Munich." In Australia, Bana appeared in "Romulus, My Father," earning another Best Actor award and contributing to the film's AFI Best Film recognition.
Bana has continued to work in crime thrillers and drama, starring in "The Dry" and reprising his role as Aaron Falk in "Force of Nature: The Dry 2," based on the novel by Jane Harper. He also starred in the Netflix series "Untamed," portraying Kyle Turner, a U.S. National Park Service agent investigating a suspicious death in Yosemite.
In addition to his acting career, Bana was appointed Member of the Order of Australia for his services to drama. He made his directorial debut with the documentary "Love the Beast," which premiered at Tribeca. Bana has also served as an advocate for Australia's Mental Illness Fellowship. His career encompasses a range of genres, including comedy, war films, and crime dramas, establishing him as a versatile figure in the entertainment industry.
