Dua Lipa is a celebrated English-Albanian singer and songwriter who first began singing at the tender age of five. Influenced by her father, a lead singer and guitarist of a Kosovan rock band, she developed a passion for music that led her to sign a recording contract with Warner Bros. in 2014. After moving back to London at 15 from Pristina, Kosovo, she posted cover songs on YouTube and SoundCloud and worked as a model, appearing in an ITV advertisement for "The X Factor" in 2013. Her musical journey took a leap forward in 2017 with the release of her debut album, which peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart and included successful singles like "Be the One," "IDGAF," and "New Rules."
Following her debut album's success, Lipa's career continued to soar. She won the Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act, and her single "One Kiss" with Calvin Harris was the best-selling song of 2018 in the UK. In 2019, she won the Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and for Best Dance Recording. Her second album, "Future Nostalgia," released in 2020, became her first UK number-one album, with the lead single, "Don't Start Now," enjoying a long top-ten stay on the UK Singles Chart. This album's success was solidified with follow-up singles like "Physical," "Break My Heart," and "Levitating."
Aside from her music career, Lipa made her acting debut in the film Barbie in 2023 and played a supporting role in the spy film Argylle. She also hosted "Saturday Night Live" in 2024, where she promoted her third studio album, "Radical Optimism." Time magazine included her in its list of the top 100 most influential people in the world for 2024. The 25-year-old pop-star was born in London but spent the majority of her childhood living in Kosovo after moving there in 2011. She was born to Albanian immigrant parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa and is the eldest of three children. She clarified with fans that while Dua Lipa may sound like somewhat of a “stage name”, it is in fact her birth name and ‘Dua’ can be translated to mean “love” in Albanian.
