Daisy Ridley Biography
Daisy Ridley is an English actress recognized for her work in film and television, particularly in science fiction and drama. After leaving Birkbeck, University of London to pursue acting, Ridley began her career with supporting roles in British television series such as "Youngers" and "Silent Witness." She gained international attention when cast as Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," part of the "Star Wars" franchise. The film became one of the highest-grossing global releases, establishing Ridley as a prominent figure in contemporary cinema.
Ridley is best known for her portrayal of Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." Her performance in the franchise earned her recognition, including Best Newcomer at the Empire Awards, the Oscar Wilde Award from the US-Ireland Alliance, and the Hollywood Rising Star Award at the Deauville Film Festival.
In addition to her work in the "Star Wars" series, Ridley has appeared in a range of genres. She starred in the mystery film "Murder on the Orient Express" and played Ophelia in the romantic drama "Ophelia." Her filmography also includes "The Marsh King's Daughter," "Sometimes I Think About Dying," and the title role in "Young Woman and the Sea," which tells the story of Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Ridley co-produced "Sometimes I Think About Dying," marking her debut as a film producer.
Ridley has spoken publicly about her experience with Graves' disease, an autoimmune disorder, after receiving a diagnosis from an endocrinologist. She initially attributed her symptoms to her role in the psychological thriller "Magpie." Her openness about her health has contributed to public discussions around autoimmune conditions.
With a career spanning blockbuster franchises, independent films, and producing, Ridley is recognized for her versatility and presence in the entertainment industry, particularly in science fiction and drama.
