Caine Monroy Biography

The story of Caine Monroy and how he spent his summer vacation building an elaborate cardboard arcade in his dad's used auto parts store has become not only an internet phenomenon, it has exploded into a worldwide movement that celebrates creativity, entrepreneurship, community and the power of social media.

Caine's dream of having lots of customers visit his wonderful arcade didn't seem likely. His dad's auto parts store is located in an industrial part of East LA and gets almost zero foot traffic. But through it all, Caine kept at it, designing games, prizes and passes for the customers. The few walk-in customers that came through were always in too much of a hurry to get their auto part to play Caine's Arcade. But Caine never gave up.

One day, through a stroke of serendipity, filmmaker Nirvan Mullick came in for a used auto part. He was touched and inspired by Caine's arcade, and vowed to get the story told. Complete with a flash mob of customers to surprise Caine, the 11-minute film CAINE'S ARCADE has evolved into a much wider sensation. Since its original posting in April 2012, the film has:

Received over 7 MILLION total views and over 120,000 Facebook Fans 
Raised over $200,000 for Caine's Scholarship Fund and $250,000 in matching grants from the Goldhirsch Foundation 
Inspired over 100 schools in 9 countries to create cardboard arcades 
Launched the Imagination Foundation, which is developing school pilot programs including a Global Day of Play to raise money to build a physical space in LA where kids can go to develop network of mentorship and learn about business and social entrepreneurship at a young age

With coverage in FORBES, WIRED, CBS, MSNBC, Good Morning America, NPR and other national press, and, of course, through social media, Caine's story continue to grow. In the summer of 2012, Caine traveled to France as the youngest speaker ever to address the Cannes Lions conference. He received the Latino Spirit Award from the California State Assembly, and Caine was the youngest entrepreneur ever to speak at the USC Marshall School of Business.
