Steve Acquah Biography
Steve is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Amherst . He is director of the Nobel Laureate Sir Harold Kroto's Research Group working on carbon nanotube structures, to design and make new materials including conductive paper and solar cells. He is also the director of GEOSET and presenter for "Science With Acquah", which means that when he's not in the laboratory, he's helping produce educational modules for the young and young at heart.

As the digital economy progresses, we have a unique opportunity to reach more people through STEM education and a focus on vocational subjects, ensuring that we support the development of transferable skills. The GEOSET Studio facility at Florida State University was built to help bridge the digital divide with access to innovative technology that we use to address many social issues, and support creativity and diversity. The student managed facility provides a cost-effective solution to support education, taking advantage of the growing interest in online video. The first videos produced were designed for K-12 teacher support with basic algebra and numbers. The range of videos expanded when undergraduate and graduate students began documenting their scientific research activities. As Harry Kroto and the GEOSET Team traveled the world talking about the importance of educational outreach, many universities and educational organizations joined the GEOSET initiative. We hope that from the possibility of running live-streaming coding workshops in Africa to molecular assembly workshops in Brazil, we will enable the next generation of scientists, engineers, and artists to obtain what everybody deserves, a truly equal opportunity to make a difference.
