Take one mic-swinging vocalist who throws himself to the floor, the crowd, the walls, and into his band mates. Toss in two in-synch guitarists who provide vocals and an insane amount of movement as they shred and toss their instruments with guided precision. Add a fleet-fingered bassist and a rock-solid drummer holding it all down like the eye of the storm in a musical hurricane. We're almost there... Mix in equal parts high energy and catchy hooks, and Voilà! This formula renders Sparks The Rescue, a group of five guys from Portland, Maine with an average age of only 20.
2007 saw the release of Sparks The Rescue's digital-only six song EP, 'The Secrets We Can't Keep' on Double Blind Music. Now, we have the full album, 'eyes to the sun'. And what an album it is! 'eyes to the sun' represents a huge leap forward for S.T.R. Singer Alex Roy notes: “After we started writing new tracks we knew the music was going to be a little different. 'eyes to the sun' is an example on how we've grown as players and people. We wanted to write better, more rockin' songs.”
The 11 songs on 'eyes to the sun' tell a sonic story of a young band's hopes and dreams, lost and found love, and desire to break out of their small town and make their mark on the world. Bassist Ben Briggs says: “We want to make a career out of this band. We love playing and creating music, and don't have any intention of stopping.”
Stand-out tracks include the first single and video “Autumn”, as well as “My Heart Radio”, “I Swear That She's The One”, “Shipwreck”, and the ode to drinking margaritas in the snow “Hello Mexico”. Unique and memorable arrangements wrapped in pristine production and emotion-filled playing is the hallmark of 'eyes to the sun'. “We wrote a bunch of songs and recorded countless demos, so by the time we went into the studio with producer Jon Wyman we were fully prepared,” drummer Nate Spencer explains.
Logging in over 200 shows throughout the US to date, Sparks The Rescue has shared the stage with Hawthorne Heights, Just Surrender, As Tall As Lions, Dave Melillo, Roses Are Red, A Change of Pace, Showbread, Chiodos, A Static Lullaby, Saosin, Boys Night Out, Stretch Arm Strong, Emanuel, Danger Radio, Forever The Sickest Kids, Mayday Parade, and plenty more! Putting a humorous twist on it, guitarist Patrick O'Connell adds: “Our van is where we live on the road, and it usually smells like axe and cigarette smoke!” Guitarist Toby McAllister elaborates: “We try to make our live show less like a separation between audience and band, and more like a giant hang out. We bring lots of energy and try to make it as much fun as possible.”
