Silversun Pickups Biography
Silversun Pickups is a Grammy Award nominated indie alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2002. The band comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Brian Aubert, vocalist and bassist Nikki Monninger, drummer Christopher Guanlao and keyboardist Joe Lester.
Their debut EP “Pikul” was released on Dangerbird Records in 2005. The name is commonly pronounced "Pickle", but the correct pronunciation is "pie-kull". Pikul has sold over 55,000 copies to date.
On September 26, 2006, the band released their debut full-length album “Carnavas.” Two of the album's four singles, "Lazy Eye" and "Well Thought Out Twinkles," would hit the top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2007. Carnavas peaked at #80 on the Billboard 200, and has sold 410,000 copies since its release.
“Swoon” was released on April 14, 2009 on Dangerbird Records and debuted at #7 selling approximately 43,000 copies in its first week. “Swoon” has sold more than 285,000 copies so far. "Panic Switch" was the first single released from the album and it reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, becoming their first number-one single on any Billboard chart. Panic Switch" was the first song by an independent artist to reach number one on the chart in 11 years. After a one week stay at number one, it spent eleven weeks at #2. It is also their first Hot 100 entry, peaking at #92.
In early December 2009, the band was nominated in the Best New Artist category for the 52nd Grammy Awards.
