Richard Thomas Biography
Richard Thomas first gained recognition for his role as John-Boy Walton in the CBS drama series "The Waltons," which earned him an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series in 1973. His performance in this series also garnered him another Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe Award nominations. Thomas continued to build his career in television, with roles in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's "It" as Bill Denbrough, and as Special Agent Frank Gaad on FX's spy thriller series "The Americans," which debuted in 2013. His involvement in television extended to Netflix's "Ozark" in 2022, where he portrayed Wendy Byrde's estranged father, Nathan Davis.
Thomas demonstrated his versatility as an actor by transitioning between television and theater. In 2017, his performance in the Broadway revival of "The Little Foxes" earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He also performed in the Public Theater's "Timon of Athens" in 2011 and in the Broadway production of "Twelve Angry Men" in 2007. His theater career saw him portraying Atticus Finch in the 2022-2024 tour of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and Professor Webb in Thornton Wilder's play "Our Town," alongside Jim Parsons and Katie Holmes in 2024.
Outside of acting, Thomas has contributed to the industry as a producer and director, notably producing "What Love Sees" in 1996 and directing episodes of "The Waltons." He further utilized his vocal talents in narration, being credited for narrating over 340 books on Audible as of January 2023. With a range of roles and responsibilities throughout his career, Thomas continues to be a dynamic figure in the entertainment industry.
