Psychedelic Furs Biography

The Psychedelic Furs are an English rock band founded in London in February 1977. Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs were one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound to later touching on new wave and hard rock. Richard Butler ventured into a solo career in 2006 but maintains his role within the band.

The band had a few major hits in their early career, such as their 1984 single "The Ghost in You," which was featured in the second season of Netflix's "Stranger Things," and their 1982 single "Love My Way," which was played in the film "Call Me by Your Name." In 1986, filmmaker John Hughes used the song "Pretty in Pink" for his movie of the same name.

The band went on hiatus after touring in 1992 but later regrouped in 2000. The current lineup includes Richard Butler, Tim Butler, Amanda Kramer, and Rich Good, and they continue to perform around the world. They released their first studio album in nearly three decades, "Made of Rain," on July 31, 2020. The band also released a video for their fifth single from Made of Rain, "Wrong Train," in March 2021, followed by a new single, "Evergreen," in September 2021. Richard Butler co-wrote songs with Martin Gore for Depeche Mode's 2023 album "Memento Mori."

The Psychedelic Furs have not only been influential in the rock and roll genre for four decades but have also been part of the Second British Invasion. They have released eight studio albums, as well as compilations, a boxed set, and a live concert DVD. Their latest release, "Made Of Rain," became their second-highest charting UK Album. The Furs' music has been featured in many iconic motion picture soundtracks, and they have headlined the UK's Glastonbury Festival and performed at sold-out gigs at the Hollywood Bowl. Despite the loss of saxophonist Mars Williams in November 2023, the band continues to tour regularly around the world.
