Peter Cetera Biography
Peter Cetera is a singer, songwriter, bassist, and producer known for his role as an original member of the rock band Chicago and for his solo career in pop and rock music. As a solo artist, Cetera has achieved six Top 40 singles, including two that reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
Cetera developed an interest in music at age 11 when his parents purchased an accordion for him. He later transitioned to electric bass and began performing with high school friends on the local dance circuit. Cetera played in several Chicago-area groups, including The Exceptions, before joining The Big Thing, which was later renamed Chicago. With Chicago, Cetera contributed lead vocals and songwriting to many of the band's hits, including the chart-topping songs "If You Leave Me Now" and "Hard to Say I'm Sorry."
After departing from Chicago, Cetera continued his career as a solo artist. His single "Glory of Love," featured in "The Karate Kid, Part II," reached No. 1 and received nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy Award, as well as recognition from ASCAP and BMI for most performed song from a film. The album "Solitude/Solitaire" produced another No. 1 hit, "The Next Time I Fall," a duet with Amy Grant, which also received a Grammy nomination. Cetera's solo discography includes additional charting singles and collaborations with artists such as Chaka Khan.
Cetera has performed in orchestral concerts and themed tours. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Chicago, though he did not perform at the ceremony. Cetera is recognized for his distinctive tenor voice and his influence on pop and rock ballads.
