Owl City Biography
Owl City is an American synthpop musical project by Adam Young. Owl City was born from Young's musical experiments in his parents' basement in Owatonna, Minnesota. As Owl City, Young developed a following through MySpace before signing with Universal Republic. Young's influences are disco and European electronic music.
In 2007, Owl City released an EP titled Of June, followed by the 2008 release of the album Maybe I'm Dreaming. Of June reached No. 15 on the Billboard Electronic Albums chart, and Maybe I'm Dreaming peaked on the same chart at No. 13.
Owl City's second full length album, Ocean Eyes, was released in 2009, and reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. “Fireflies” was released as the album's first single and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.
All Things Bright and Beautiful, Owl City's third album, was released in 2011. It went to No. 6 on the Billboard 200. The first official single released from the album was “Alligator Sky,” which featured Californian rapper Shawn Chrystopher.
His fourth studio album was titled The Midsummer Station. Released in 2012, he collaborated with Carly Rae Jepson for the single "Good Time."
In January 2013, he revealed that his fifth album will contain more EDM songs than his previous studio efforts. He hopes to record a song for the album with Ellie Goulding and claims that his new album will be "edgy".
Young has recorded music for soundtracks for films such as "Wreck It Ralph," "The Croods," "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and "Smurfs 2."
