Brian Tyree Henry Biography
Brian Tyree Henry is an acclaimed actor who has demonstrated his versatility in a range of roles across television, film, and theatre. He has been recognized for his talent by prestigious institutions, with nominations for the Academy Award, two Critics' Choice Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Tony Award. Henry's performances in the FX comedy-drama series "Atlanta," NBC's "This Is Us," and the Apple TV+ limited series "Dope Thief" have all earned him Emmy nominations. His filmography ranges from "Widows" and "If Beale Street Could Talk" to blockbuster films like "Godzilla vs. Kong" and "Bullet Train." He also made his mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his portrayal of Phastos in "Eternals."
Henry's voice acting work is as prominent as his on-screen roles. He voiced Jefferson Davis in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its sequel "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", and Megatron in "Transformers One." Henry is the first Black actor to voice both characters. In 2024, he also became the voice of Smokey Bear, making history once again. His stage career is equally noteworthy. He made his debut in Shakespeare in the Park's production of "Romeo and Juliet" and went on to perform in Broadway hits such as "The Book of Mormon" and Kenneth Lonergan's play "Lobby Hero," the latter earning him a Tony Award nomination.
In addition to his Emmy and Tony nominations, Henry received Academy Award, Critics' Choice, Gotham Award, and Independent Spirit Award nominations for his role in "Causeway." He won the Black Reel Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2023 and was nominated for the 2025 Annie Awards for "The Wild Robot." Henry continues to impress audiences with his roles in the Fox animated series "HouseBroken," the Netflix animated series "Big Mouth," and the FX series "Class Of '09."
