Aly & AJ, initially known as 78violet from 2009 to 2015, have a rich history in the music industry with notable achievements. Their debut album, "Into the Rush," which was certified Gold by the RIAA, laid the foundation for their thriving career. Their single "Potential Breakup Song" from the album "Insomniatic" not only went Platinum but also earned a spot in the top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was later named one of the 10 Best Songs of 2007 by Time magazine. They branched out from Hollywood Records in 2010, released the single "Hothouse" in 2013, and returned to their original name, releasing extended plays "Ten Years" in 2017 and "Sanctuary" in 2019.
Amidst their successful music career, Aly & AJ also ventured into acting and starred together in the 2006 Disney Channel Original movie "Cow Belles." Their music career continued to flourish with the release of their fourth studio album, "A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun," in 2021, and their fifth, "With Love From," in 2023. They won three Radio Disney Music Awards in 2005 and the American Music Award for Contemporary Inspirational Artists of the Year in 2006. They made their debut at Lollapalooza in 2021, performed at Austin City Limits in 2022, and won the Popdust Award for Best Siblings in Pop in 2013, further cementing their place in the music industry.
Outside of their music and acting careers, Aly & AJ are known for their activism, supporting causes such as LGBTQ+ rights, voter registration, Black Lives Matter, and Planned Parenthood. They have endorsed various Democratic Party candidates and have partnered with organizations like HeadCount, The Trevor Project, and Project HEAL to promote voter registration and mental health awareness. In June 2020, they hosted "Up All Night with Aly & AJ," a fundraising livestream that raised $30,000 for various charities.
