Jamie Brewer

Keynote Speaker: Actress Best Known for "American Horror Story"; First Model with Down Syndrome to Walk at NY Fashion Week

Jamie Brewer Biography

Jamie Brewer is most recognized for her roles in the FX horror anthology television series "American Horror Story." She initially rose to prominence for her portrayal of Adelaide 'Addie' Langdon in season one and later reprised the role in the spin-off series "American Horror Stories." She also delivered a captivating performance as Nan in the third season of the anthology series, and later in the eighth season, subtitled "Apocalypse."

Brewer began her acting journey in 1999 with theater classes at a College for Kids program during her middle school years. She has performed in dramas, musicals, comedies, and improvisations during her theater training at Dionysus Theatre. In addition to her significant television work, Brewer has appeared in several films, including Whitney's Wedding, Kill Off, Turnover, Second Date, The Wagon, The Hoarding, and Cherry. She also had appearances in other TV shows such as "Southland," "Switched at Birth," "Love You More," and "Station 19."

As the youngest individual ever elected President of the ARC of Fort Bend Chapter, Brewer played a pivotal role in legislative advocacy. She served on the ARC Governmental Affairs Committee for the State of Texas, where she successfully lobbied Senators at the Texas State Capitol to abolish the use of the "R" word from state legislation and address the needs of people with disabilities in Texas. Texas now uses "Intellectual Developmental Disability" in its legislation.

Brewer is involved with several non-profit organizations, including DSALA, DSiAM, BTAP, National Down Syndrome Congress, American Association of People with Disabilities of the United States, and Civitan International. In 2015, she received the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation for her advocacy efforts.

Brewer's TV debut was in 2011 in "American Horror Story: Murder House." Following the end of the show's first season, she appeared on Southland in an episode titled "Heat," which aired on February 20, 2013. She returned to American Horror Story for its third season, subtitled "Coven," portraying Nan, a young witch who is clairvoyant. Brewer continued to reappear in the series in different roles, including Majorie in the fourth season and Hedda in the seventh season.

In February 2015, Brewer made history as the first woman with Down syndrome to walk the red carpet at New York Fashion Week, doing so for designer Carrie Hammer. Additionally, Brewer has made significant contributions to theater, starring in plays such as "Amy and the Orphans" and "Corsicana." She made her Off-Broadway debut in 2018 in "Amy and the Orphans," becoming the first woman with Down syndrome to star in an Off-Broadway play.

Her performance in "Amy and the Orphans" earned her a nomination for an Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play by the Outer Critics Circle Awards in 2018. Brewer went on to win the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play that same year. Following these successes, she was cast as Gina in the independent drama film Turnover.

Jamie Brewer Reviews

  • Overall we feel like it was a very successful event. We were very happy with Jamie's interaction with attendees, Q&A and VIP Meet & Greet. We would love to have Jamie back if either the Speaker Fee was decreased, or other expenses were covered by All American Entertainment. We were pleased with the overall experience and would %100 propose another collaboration in the future if the above was addressed.
