Danny Glover is an award-winning actor, producer, and humanitarian with a performance career that spans more than 30 years. From the blockbuster Lethal Weapon franchise in film, to hit television shows such as "ER," Glover has portrayed a myriad of popular roles and has distinguished himself as one of his generation’s most consummate actors.
A native of San Francisco, Danny Glover attended San Francisco State University and trained at the Black Actors Workshop of the American Conservatory. He appeared in numerous stage productions, including "The Island" and "Macbeth" at the Los Angeles Actors Theater and "Sizwe Banzi is Dead" at the Eureka Theatre. However, it was Glover's performance in the New York production of Athol Fugard's Master Harold and the Boys, that first brought the actor national recognition. During the summer of 2003, he starred in the well-received revival of Master Harold and the Boys.
As an adolescent and a young adult, Glover suffered from epilepsy but has not suffered a seizure since age 35.
Glover’s performances in such classic motion pictures as The Color Purple, Witness, and Places in the Heart, have not only showcased his talent and versatility but have also brought him critical and audience acclaim. Honored with Awards from the NAACP, BET, and SAG, Glover has also received several Emmy nominations for his work in such Television hits as Lonesome Dove.
To Sleep With Anger marked Glover's debut as an executive producer. Other films produced by Glover include The Saint of Fort Washington; HBO's "America's Dream" series for Black History Month; the HBO-BBC movie Deadly Voyage, based on a true story of eight African stowaways who were slaughtered on high seas by a Ukrainian freighter crew; TNT's Buffalo Soldiers, a dramatic story of America's first all-black cavalry unit; and TNT's Freedom Song, a story about the civil rights movement.
Off-screen, Glover has gained respect for his wide-reaching community activism and philanthropic efforts. Some of the causes he champions are global human rights, economic and social justice, climate change and the environment, education and the arts.
Internationally, Glover has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program, focusing on issues of poverty, disease and economic development in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He currently serves as UNICEF Ambassador.
