Morton Kondracke Biography
For nearly 50 years, Morton Kondracke has served as a political commentator and journalist covering nearly every phase of American politics and foreign policy in print and broadcast.
After 20 years as executive editor and columnist for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, Kondracke retired in 2011, but served as the Senior Editor for a few years before fully retiring.
From 1977 to 1991, Kondracke was executive editor and senior editor of The New Republic, served as Washington bureau chief of Newsweek and worked as a columnist for The Wall Street Journal. He was a regular panelist on “This Week with David Brinkley” and a panelist in the 1984 presidential debate. For over a decade, Kondracke was a panelist on the syndicated public affairs show “The McLaughlin Group,” and became a public icon for his role as one of the show's most outspoken and enthusiastic panelists. He previously served as a commentator on Fox News Channel since 1996.
Kondracke's political writings have gained a wide following based on the articles he has penned for such publications as "The New York Times", "The Economist", "Washingtonian", "The Weekly Standard", and "The Wall Street Journal". His political commentary could also be heard over the airwaves during the ten years he was a commentator for National Public Radio, and he later received the Washington Post “Crystal Ball Award” in 1994 for predicting the Republican takeover of Congress.
Kondracke is the author of the best-selling book “Saving Milly: Love, Politics and Parkinson’s Disease,” which was the subject of a CBS Sunday Night Movie.
